It’s been a LONG time since AFI had played a headline gig on these shores – and even longer since I last photographed them.
So, it was amazing to have them over in the UK to play at the Outbreak Festival and also a series of gigs across the UK.
I don’t think I’d seen the band since their Decemberunderground tour in 2006 so to see them twice in two days was pretty special.
Their latest album Silver Bleeds The Black Sun is their best in ages so it was great to hear tracks from it live alongside some of their other classics.
I wasn’t that happy with the photos from the Institute in Birmingham initially, until I gave them this pink treatment – which was kinda in keeping with this album’s aesthetic.
There’s a full review of the gig running on the Birmingham World website here.

No photos from when I first saw them in Sheffield in 2001 sadly!
