slowthai, Knucks, Deb Never - Brixton Academy, London
30 March 2022

slowthai is out on his Hell Is Home tour which headed to O2 Academy in Brixton in London on Wednesday night. It's been a long time coming, but the Northampton rapper is on the road touring in support of his second album Tyron which was released last year. Ty was joined by Knucks and Deb Never at the London venue where he's playing two sold-out shows. The photos below are from the first night. Bit of a nightmare to shoot as both Knucks and Deb Never were bathed in entirely blue light and for the opening three...

Bauhaus, Alexandra Palace, London
30 October 2021

Bauhaus headlined a triumphant headline gig at Ally Pally on Saturday night. The reformed post-punk goth icons headlined the London venue as one of only a handful of gigs across the world. Another sold out gig by slowthai. This was the final show of the Northampton rappers' Bet Ya A £5er tour before Ty headed over to Europe and then America to open for...

Billy Lockett, O2 Empire, Shepherd's Bush, London
25 April 2019

This was a bit of a landmark one for Northampton native Billy Lockett. His biggest headline gig to date the London's O2 Empire. Was covering this one for the Northampton Chronicle & Echo and was joined by Phil Moore of SBD Promotions and New Boots fame who wrote a review. There's seems to be some problems with the live link, but there's a cashed version which still works if you want a read. Photographed Billy quite a few times over the years, there's some more featured on this site...

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, KOKO, London
1 April 2017

Just a couple from last night's Frank Cater & The Rattlesnakes gigs at the KOKO. Nightmare nightmare lighting and the busiest photo pit I've been in at the KOKO - other than that business as usual by one of rock's best...

Billy Lockett - HMV, Northampton
23 May 2026

Billy Lockett has just released his new album things are looking up and to mark its release played an in-store acoustic set at HMV in Northampton. The record is the follow up to lock its debut album Abington Grove and has seen the singer songwriter settle into a bit to a more acoustic groove on this record compared to his piano led ballads on his debut. Lockett would go on to feature in 10 of the official UK album charts, reaching number 50 50 in the Official UK Albums Chart but more importantly topping the Indie...

bby - The Black Prince, Northampton
27 March 2026

Bby headlined The Black Prince as part of a short run of dates across the UK and Europe on their 'Hometown Tour'. The band's Northampton gig was one of five they were playing on a tour which visited the hometown of each member. Aside from Northampton, they also played in Bologna, Southampton, Paris, and London. Didn't know much about bby going into this one, but the gig also marked the venue's 10th anniversary since reopening. Support was by litesleeper. For more information about bby, visit...

Whitelands - Esquires, Bedford
25 February 2026

London shoegaze quartet Whitelands have been on tour following the release of their new album Sunlight Echos and headlined Esquires this week. I managed to check out these guys at Rockaway Beach at the start of the year and was really impressed then so it was great to be able to pop over to Bedford to see them play a headline gig. Nice and busy in the second room for this one and Whitelands sound even better live than they do on record. A bit too much smoke in terms of photography - but that's just me...

Big Special - O2 Institute, Birmingham
21 February 2026

Big Special returned to Birmingham for the closest thing to a hometown gig for the duo as part of their UK tour supporting their latest album National Average. I've been lucky enough to see Big Special a number of times over recent years after stumbling across them at the Craufurd Arms in Milton Keynes supporting Benefits as part of Independent Venue Week in 2023. Seeing them go from strength to strength and picking up an ever growing fanbase along the way has been great. Joining the band were fellow West...

Idles - O2 Academy, Birmingham
3 December 2024

It was however, my first time shooting them since their 2018 gig in Milton Keynes. You can see photos from both the Bedford and Milton Keynes gigs...

The Fierce & The Dead - The Black Prince, Northampton
5 October 2024

The Fierce And The Dead headlined The Black Prince as part of a short run of UK dates. The band, which originate from London, melds elements of psychedelic rock, post rock, shoegaze and prog. Paloma Faith - Campbell Park, Milton Keynes
17 July 2022

Paloma Faith brought Campbell Park’s live concert series to a close on Sunday night with a set of pop perfection. Following headline performances on previous nights by ABBA Symphonic and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, the London singer songwriter treated fans to some of her best-known hits from across her five albums. Organisers were forced to make a last minute change to the line-up after James Morrison pulled out due to illness. Joe Bygraves stepped in to replace Morrison and followed Katie Kittermaster who opened...

Tom Grennan, Esquires, Bedford
15 August 2021

Tom Grennan returned to the stage “where it all started” for the final two performances of a triumphant six-show sold-out ‘residency’ at Esquires in Bedford. The chart-topping singer songwriter announced the hometown gigs in March and after the initial dates sold out in seconds, a total of six shows were subsequently announced. Grennan topped the UK’s Official Albums Chart with his second LP Evering Road, the follow up to his acclaimed 2018 album Lighting Matches, and next month he will head out on a...

Maddox Jones, The Black Prince, Northampton
18 July 2020

This gig by Maddox Jones was a bit of a significant one this. Recently, the Government gave the green light to outdoor performances. The gigs need to be quieter and still be socially distanced, however it meant The Black Prince could set about bringing live music back. The 200-cap venue has a huge covered back garden and a permanent outdoor stage and can comfortably fit as many outside with socially distanced restrictions as it can inside. Former Departure and Born Stranger man Maddox Jones was the first to...

slowthai, Roadmender, Northampton
2 January 2020

slowthai capped off an amazing year at the Roadmender last week with an early New Year's Eve Party. There's a review and a couple of photos running over at www.northamptonchron.co.uk if you want to read more about my thoughts on the show. Ty wasn't on until midnight and was joined by a host of special guests including ASH, Max Frith, Mike Skinner, Kelvin Krash & Kasien and P-rallel. 12 October 2019

Phobophobes, The Black Prince, Northampton, October 12, 2019 Another great gig at Northampton's Black Prince, courtesy of London six piece Photophobes. Dark, synth heavy weird rock and roll. Support by EGO and Naked Next...

Gary Numan, Nightmare Air, Tim Muddiman and the Strange, Roadmender, Northampton
26 March 2018

Gary Numan brought the latest leg of his Savage world tour to the Roadmender last night. Numan was joined by Nightmare Air and Northampton's Tim Middiman, who as well as opening the show with his band The Strange, is Numan's long time bassist. Challenging lighting, but I didn't really expect anything less. I've previously photographed Gary Numan when he headlined the Kentish Town Forum in 2015 For more details, visit www.garynuman.com Gary Numan:   Nightmare Air   Tim Muddiman &...

My Vitriol, Craufurd Arms, Milton Keynes
8 April 2017

So, I desperately hoped this would be a good night. Unfortunately, it wasn't. When on form, My Vitriol are amazing, but this was far from it. I hate writing negative reviews, but it had to be done. My review which appeared on the Northampton Chron follows. On paper (quite literally), this should have been a great opening night to My Vitriol’s ‘Secret Sessions’ tour. Armed with a set littered with a mix of new and old material, the ‘nu-gaze’ alternative trio (more on that later), are back with their longest run...
