Annual music all-dayer Ceremony bought some of the best up and coming acts to Esquires last weekend for the latest edition of the venue’s acclaimed event. Now in its sixth edition, Ceremony was headlined by Deadletter who were joined by 11 other acts performing across two stages at the venue. Courtney Barnett - Esquires, Bedford
1 April 2026

Aussie signer-songwriter Courtney Barnett headed to Esquires in Bedford to play a sold-out show as part of a small run of dates to promote her new album. Barnett released her new album Creature Of Habit in March and tickets for her gig at Esquires sold out in a matter of minutes. Outside of some of the bigger singles, I didn't know too much by Barnett, but she played a great set of mostly tracks from her new record. More photos of gigs at Esquires in Bedford are available on this site here. For more information...

Whitelands - Esquires, Bedford
25 February 2026

London shoegaze quartet Whitelands have been on tour following the release of their new album Sunlight Echos and headlined Esquires this week. I managed to check out these guys at Rockaway Beach at the start of the year and was really impressed then so it was great to be able to pop over to Bedford to see them play a headline gig. Nice and busy in the second room for this one and Whitelands sound even better live than they do on record. A bit too much smoke in terms of photography - but that's just me...

TTSSFU - Esquires, Bedford
17 January 2026

There's quite a bit of hype around Nicole Stephens - AKA TTSSFU and rightly so. The Manchester based singer-songwriter headed to Esquires in Bedford as part of a short run of shows in the UK and Europe. Stephens has recently been included in DIY magazine's Class of 2026 list, has been all over the airwaves of BBC 6 Music and will be heading to SXSW in Texas in March. More photos from gigs at Esquires are available on this site here. For more information about, visit...

Benefits - Esquires, Bedford
16 November 2025

Alongside Night Life by The Horrors, Benefits' album Constant Noise is one of my favourites of 2025. While the core of the band has always been Kingsley Hall and Robbie Major, it's the first time I'd see them as a duo - having always previously seen them with a live drummer. On this jaunt across the UK, the pair have been playing 'matinee' gigs where possible of a weekend, thankfully meaning it wasn't a late one on a Sunday. Joining Benefits was Dan Le Sac, with a set of breakbeat electronica. More photos of...

Teenage Fanclub - Esquires, Bedford
6 August 2025

Scottish indie icons Teenage Fanclub headed to Esquires for two nights at the venue. The band was out on a short run of dates across the UK which included two sold-out gigs at the Bedford venue. The Horrors - Esquires, Bedford
27 November 2024

After a bit of hiatus, The Horrors are back with a new album and kicked off a short underplay tour at Esquires in Bedford. The two recent singles building up to this tour have been excellent and it was great to finally see the band live having never seen them. Unsurprisingly, it was a bit of a nightmare to shoot - with next to nothing in the way of front facing lights. More photos of gigs at Esquires are available on this site here. There's a full review of the show running on the Bedford Times & Citizen...

Sprints - Esquires, Bedford
24 May 2024

Dublin's Sprints played a cracking headline set at Esquires ahead of a festival spot the following day at Live At Leeds. The band released one of my favourite debut albums of 2024 at the start of the year and live, the sounds sounded great. Sprints have a brilliant alternative rock / grunge sound to them and a great vocalist in Karla Chubb. They're definitely worth catching live if you can. For more information about Sprints, visit https://www.sprintsmusic.com More photos of acts playing at Esquires are...

12 March 2023

After a postponed gig in 2021, Grammy nominated electronic trio PVA finally headlined Esquires as part of a UK tour. PVA released their debut album Blush last year and headed to Bedford with Double Helix in tow. Both were excellent, but both played with virtually no front facing light which made it a bit of a nightmare to shoot. Still managed to get some decent shots though. Shoegaze legends Ride kicked off their UK tour with a warm-up gig at Esquires in Bedford. The band is touring the UK in support of their 1990 album Nowhere, which they played in full as well as selection of other classics. There was a very justified amount of hype around the show, which sold out in about 10 seconds when tickets went on sale earlier this year. Esquires was packed to see the acclaimed Oxford quartet play probably the smallest venue you're ever likely to see them in. Ride were amazing and it was...

Cabbage, Esquires, Bedford
19 October 2017

Cabbage brought their headline UK tour to Esquires in Bedford on Wednesday night. There's been a sizeable amount of hype around the band since they broke through last year and released Young, Dumb and Full Of... -  a compilation of their early EPs - and ended up on virtually everyone's 'Ones to watch' lists. Wednesday was good with a great turn out for a mid week gig. However, did Cabbage live up to hype, not really. Things got off to a bit of a sluggish start with the intensity signs of a 'controlled chaos'...

Estrons / Indian Queens, Esquires, Bedford
22 January 2017

Not strictly Independent Venue Week this one, but two great bands at a great Independent venue, just before #IVW17. Estrons, pictured above and Indian Queens below. Both were ace, with probably Indian Queens edging it for me. They've next to nothing out currently, but deserve your attention. Their debut single Us Against The World is...

The Horrors - The Crossing, Birmingham
21 November 2025

The Horrors' latest album, Night Life, is probably going to be my album of the year. Having seen them at the end of 2024 over at Esquires in Bedford ahead of the record's release, it was great to see them again and hear a bit more new material. There's been a run of gigs with no front facing light recently. However, you'd expect nothing less from the band. This is the first Horrors album and run of live dates where the line-up has differed significantly from the bulk of their earlier work. However, this seems...

Live music was only a small part of what was on offer, with river parades, demonstrations and games along the Great Ouse as well as loads of food and drink stalls. Below is a selection of acts playing on the main stage on the...
